Local history

In 1512, near the village, there was a mill owned by the sovereign. It is likely to be the mill of Gerhard von Schaesberg mentioned in the oldest Heinsberg fiefdom register. The court and the parish Havert were located in the village. A small chapel already existed in 1533. Isenbruch had a total of 320 inhabitants in 1828 and belonged to the Havert community and the Selfkant district.

From April 23, 1949 to July 31, 1963, the Selfkant and with it Isenbruch were under Dutch order management. The repatriation took place on August 1, 1963 after payment of 280 million D-Marks .

With the law on the restructuring of municipalities in the Selfkant district of Geilenkirchen-Heinsberg of June 24, 1969, the municipalities of Havert , Hillensberg, Höngen , Millen , Süsterseel, Tüddern, Wehr (Selfkant office) and the Saeffelen municipality (Waldfeucht office) became effective on July 1, 1969. merged to form the new, non-official municipality Selfkant

Church history

In the 18th century the chapel was renovated and rebuilt. After the war damage had been repaired, a thorough restoration took place in 1986.

In the course of the parish reforms in the Diocese of Aachen, the formerly independent Catholic parish of St. Gertrud was incorporated into the Community of Parishes (GdG) St. Servatius Selfkant .
