Dieck is a settlement in the municipality of Selfkant in the North Rhine-Westphalian district of Heinsberg .

Dieck is located in the eastern part of the municipality of Selfkant near the villages of Saeffelen between Höngen and Broichhoven , on the Höngener- and Saeffeler Bruch nature reserve.

Waters

In heavy rain and when snowmelts , the surface water flows from the Dieck area over the Saeffeler Bach into the Rodebach (GEWKZ 281822) and then further into the Maas . The Rodebach has a length of 28.918 km with a total catchment area of ​​173.385 km².

The place name comes from the Lower Franconian or the Rhine-Maasland and describes a landfill that is used in the context of reclamation and flood protection to drain a damp lowland or to gain a site as building land, as a traffic area and for agriculture (→ dyke ).

Local history

The farmstead Dieck formerly belonged to Jülich Office Millen. In the 14th century the farm was owned by Lisa von Etzenrath (Etzenrode) as a Heinsberg fief . Since the 16th century the court appears as a fief of the man chamber Millen and probably in the 13th century with the domination Millen in Heinsberg have come.

The Dieck homestead had a total of 17 inhabitants in 1828 and together with Biesen, Großwehrhagen, Kleinwehrhagen and Höngen formed the mayor's office of Saeffelen.

From April 23, 1949 to July 31, 1963, the Selfkant and thus Dieck as well were under Dutch order management. The repatriation took place on August 1, 1963 after payment of 280 million D-Marks .

With the law on the reorganization of municipalities in the Selfkant district of Geilenkirchen-Heinsberg of June 24, 1969, the municipalities of Havert , Hillensberg , Höngen, Millen , Süsterseel , Tüddern , Wehr (Selfkant office) and the Saeffelen municipality (Waldfeucht office) became merged to form the new, non-official municipality Selfkant.

Church history

The parish of St. Lucia consisted of Saeffelen with Dieck and Heilder and was an independent parish . The majority of the population consists of Catholics .

A chapel in Saeffelen is named in a document from 1276 . The church dates from 1510 and was extended in 1770. The parish has belonged to the Gangelt deanery since 1925.

In the course of the parish reforms in the Diocese of Aachen, the formerly independent Catholic parish of St. Lucia Saeffelen was incorporated into the Community of Parishes (GdG) St. Servatius Selfkant .

According to § 3 (1) of the main statute of the Selfkant municipality, the municipality is divided into localities. Together with Höngen, Dieck is a locality and is represented in the municipal council by a local mayor in accordance with Section 3 (2) . Ruth Deckers is the head of the village of Höngen.
