Local history

Kleinwehrhagen belonged to the Jülich office of Millen. A reliable differentiation from Großwehrhagen is only possible from the 16th century. A court in Weirhagen has been published since 1476 as a fief of the man chamber Heinsberg, a little later than other likely fief of the man chamber Millen. The place belonged to the parish of Höngen.

Kleinwehrhagen had a total of 133 inhabitants in 1828 and together with Biesen, the Dieck homestead and Großwehrhagen formed the municipality of Höngen, which belonged to the Selfkant district.

From April 23, 1949 to July 31, 1963, the Selfkant and thus also the municipality of Höngen with Kleinwehrhagen were under Dutch contract management.

With the law on the reorganization of municipalities in the Selfkant district of Geilenkirchen-Heinsberg of June 24, 1969, the municipalities of Havert, Hillensberg , Höngen , Millen , Süsterseel , Tüddern , Wehr (Selfkant office) and the Saeffelen municipality (Waldfeucht office) became a new municipality Selfkant.

Church history

The Roman Catholic parish of St. Lambertus Höngen was, with Bruch, Groß- and Kleinwehrhagen, an independent parish . Already at the turn of the millennium there was a chapel in Höngen that was under the control of the Gangelt parish. In 1227 Höngen received the right to a parish church. The present church was consecrated in 1952 after it was destroyed by the war.

There is a small chapel in the village . She is the Queen of St. Consecrated rosary. The chapel dates from 1906 and was built by the residents. The property was a donation from the owner.

In the course of the parish reforms in the Diocese of Aachen, the formerly independent Catholic parish of St. Lambertus Höngen was incorporated into the Community of Parishes (GdG) St. Servatius Selfkant .

politics

According to § 3 (1) of the main statute of the Selfkant municipality, the municipality is divided into localities.
