Havert is a village in the municipality of Selfkant in the district of Heinsberg in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Havert is a place in the German municipality of Selfkant. 522 inhabitants live there. The name Havert means ash wood and is first mentioned in 1020. The west tower of St Gertrudis Church was built in 1525. The oldie party for the benefit of children with cancer is held there every year. Havert borders on the places Stein and Millen-Bruch . The listed manor house Wammen was mentioned in a document as early as 1689.
The bell founder Johannes Bourlet settled in Havert around 1669 .
Waters
In heavy rain and when snowmelts , the surface water flows from the Havert area into the Saeffelbach (GEWKZ 281822) and then further into the Maas . The Rodebach has a length of 28.918 km with a total catchment area of 173.385 km².

Local history
Havert belonged to the Jülich office of Millen. At the beginning of the 12th century Havert was owned by the glory Wassenberg . Gerhard von Wassenberg had the right of patronage to the Church of St. Gertrud zu Havert, which he transferred in 1118 to the Georgsstift founded by him. In 1260 the local manor and jurisdiction was in the hands of the Lords of Millen. After this rule was transferred to Heinsberg , the farm and lands of Havent appeared as a Heinsberg fief in the 14th century. (Haus Burg, Haus Wammen) Isenbruch and Schalbruch belonged to the Havert court .
Havert had a total of 350 inhabitants in 1828. Havert formed with Isenbruch and Schalbruch the municipality Havert, which belonged to the Office Selfkant.
From April 23, 1949 to July 31, 1963, the Selfkant and thus also the Havert municipality was under Dutch contract administration. The repatriation took place on August 1, 1963 after payment of 280 million D-Marks .
With the law on the reorganization of municipalities in the Selfkantkreis Geilenkirchen-Heinsberg of June 24, 1969, the following change of area came into force on July 1, 1969.
§ 1 (1) The municipalities of Havert, Hillensberg , Höngen , Millen , Süsterseel , Tüddern , Wehr (Selfkant office) and the Saeffelen municipality (Waldfeucht office) will be merged to form a new municipal municipality. The community is given the name Selfkant.
§ 1 (2) The Office Selfkant is dissolved. The legal successor is the municipality of Selfkant.
Church history
The parish of St. Gertrud Havert was with Isenbruch , Lind, Schalbruch and stone an independent parish . The majority of the population consists of Catholics .
The first documentary mention of the Church of St. Gertrud in Havert is known from the year 1118, when Gerhard von Wassenberg, who had the right of patronage, transferred it to the Georgsstift.
In the course of the parish reforms in the Diocese of Aachen, the formerly independent Catholic parish of St. Gertrud was incorporated into the Community of Parishes (GdG) St. Servatius Selfkant .

According to § 3 (1) of the main statute of the Selfkant municipality, the municipality is divided into localities. Havert is a locality and is represented by a local mayor in the community council according to § 3 (2) . Heinz-Josef Dahlmanns is the mayor of Havert. (Stand 2013)
