The Saeffeler Bach , also Saeffelbach , is a right tributaries of the river system of Maas counting Rodebaches . The brook flows through the North Rhine-Westphalian district of Heinsberg .
history
The Saeffeler Bach is a creek that has existed for centuries, the source of which was originally in Langbroich on today's Quellstrasse. Together with the Rodebach, both form the lifelines of the Selfkant , which also takes its name from the Saeffeler Bach. The settlement of the Bachtal is due to archaeological finds , row graves and the wooden post church in Breberen on the 8th / 9th. Century archaeologically proven. It is assumed that the first settlements date from the Frankish times.

The Saeffeler Bach flows in an east-west direction and, like the Rodebach, has its brook bed in a terrace level of the Geilenkirchen clay plate, which slopes slightly to the north. The beginning of the stream is at the sewage treatment plant in Birgden . The further course leads past Schierwaldenrath , Langbroich and Harzelt , along Brüxgen , Breberen and Broichhoven . Then the stream runs past the villages of Heilder , Stein , Lind , Havert, which are part of the Selfkant community , to Isenbruch . A level measuring point is installed in Havert. Shortly before the Isenbruch mill , the Saeffeler Bach flows into the Rodebach on the right. The catchment area of the Saeffeler Bach is 47.479 km².
Nature reserve
Since 1989, a total of four areas along the Saeffeler Bach have been designated as the Hoengener and Saeffeler Bruch nature reserve (HS-011). The area is characterized by damp swamp forests with alders , willows and poplars and has a pronounced occurrence of birds and amphibians . The focus of nature conservation work is on efforts to permanently preserve the rare humid habitats. The total area of the protection zones is 65.82 ha.

The respective communities Gangelt and Selfkant are responsible for the care and maintenance of the Saeffeler Bach.
