Local history

Langbroich used to belong to the Jülich office of Millen . The place belonged partly to the mayor of Gangelt, district of Geilenkirchen, and partly to the mayor of Waldfeucht, district of Heinsberg. While part of Langbroich belonged to the parish of Gangelt, another part with Harzelt was assigned to the parish of Breberen. A homestead in Langbroich was a Heinsberg fief in 1439 . The Biermannslehen is also mentioned in a document. Langbroich and Harzelt have always been separated only by the Saeffeler Bach, which for many years formed the municipality and district boundary.

Langbroich had a total of 533 inhabitants in 1828, and 492 in 1852. On December 31, 2018, Langbroich had 693 and Harzelt 181 inhabitants. Part of Langbroich formed with the places and Harzelt Schierwaldenrath the community Schierwaldenrath. Another part belonged to the Gangelt community. Church history

The parish of St. Mary's Conception consists of the towns of Langbroich and Harzelt and has been independent since 1855. The majority of the population consists of Catholics .

In the center of the village is the Church of St. Mary of the Conception, completed in 1859 , which is also the main attraction.

Near the church there is a memorial that commemorates those who died in the First and Second World Wars .

The place Langbroich originally belonged partly to the Gangelt parish and partly to the Breberen parish. After 1815, the part of Langbroich belonging to the mayor's office Gangelt formed a school association with the neighboring village of Harzelt, which belonged to the mayor's office of Waldfeucht and the parish of Breberen. In 1852 the residents of both places applied to the Archbishop of Cologne to set up an independent parish . On December 8, 1855, the parish of St. Mary's Conception was established. The first pastor was Hubert Schrammen. From 1925 the parish belongs to the Gangelt deanery .

In the course of the parish reforms in the Diocese of Aachen , the formerly independent Catholic parish of St. Mariäzeptnung Langbroich was incorporated into the community of the Catholic parishes of Gangelt.
