Kievelberg is a district of the community Gangelt in the district of Heinsberg in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Kievelberg is about three kilometers north of Gangelt on Kreisstraße 3 . The Höngener and Saeffeler Bruch nature reserve is located on the Saeffeler Bach, about 2 km from the village .
Waters
In heavy rain and when snowmelts , the surface water flows from the Kievelberg area into the Saeffeler Bach (GEWKZ 2818222) and then on over the Rodebach into the Maas . The Saeffeler Bach has a length of 12.747 km with a total catchment area of 47.479 km².

Local history
Kievelberg used to belong to the Jülich office of Millen . It is assumed that Kievelberg emerged from a single settlement . In 1277 the settlement in the Havertwald was justified. In 1343 the place was in the interest district Gangelt, the rule of Heinsberg . In the 16th century Millener fiefs existed in Kievelberg .
In 1828 Kievelberg had a total of 42 inhabitants, in 1852 there were 38 inhabitants. Kievelberg formed the community Gangelt with the places Gangelt, Hastenrath Hohenbusch , Kreuzrath , Mindergangelt , Niederbusch , Stahe and Vinteln . With the law on the reorganization of communities in the Selfkant district of Geilenkirchen-Heinsberg of June 24, 1969, Kievelberg could remain in the Gangelt community on July 1, 1969.
Church history
The parish vicarie St. Josef Hastenrath consists of Hastenrath and Kievelberg. The majority of the population consists of Catholics .
Hastenrath belonged to the Gangelt parish. Around the middle of the 19th century, the residents tried to have their own house of worship and their own pastor . In 1866 Dr. Heinrich Koch (1866/67) rector of the emergency church . Hastenrath became a chapel parish on January 1, 1869. The sacrament of baptism could be received from 1887. From 1913 onwards, burials took place in the cemetery , and weddings were still held in Gangelt until 1914 . On May 1, 1960, Hastenrath was declared a parish vicarie.
In the course of the parish reforms in the diocese of Aachen, the parish vicarie St. Josef Hastenrath was incorporated into the community of the Catholic parishes of Gangelt.
