Vinteln is about 2 km north of Gangelt on Kreisstraße 3 . Near the village is located on Saeffeler Bach the nature reserve Höngener- and Saeffeler break.
Waters
In heavy rain and when snowmelts , the surface water flows from the Vinteln area into the Saeffeler Bach (GEWKZ 2818222) and then on over the Rodebach into the Maas . The Saeffeler Bach has a length of 12.747 km with a total catchment area of 47.479 km².

Local history
Vinteln used to belong to the Jülich office of Millen . The settlement was subordinate to the court and the parish of Gangelt.
In 1828 Vinteln had a total of 80 inhabitants, in 1852 there were 63 inhabitants. Until after the Second World War, Vinteln belonged to the community of Schümmerquartier (Schümm). Then Vinteln formed the community Gangelt with the places Gangelt , Hastenrath , Hohenbusch , Kievelberg , Kreuzrath , Mindergangelt and Niederbusch . With the law on the reorganization of communities in the Selfkant district of Geilenkirchen-Heinsberg of June 24, 1969, Vinteln became part of the new (large) community of Gangelt on July 1, 1969.
Church history
The parish of St. Nikolaus Gangelt is made up of the towns and districts Gangelt with Claessen, Kreuzrath, Mindergangelt, Oberheide, Thyssen, Unterheide and Vinteln. The majority of the population consists of Catholics .
In 1268 Theodoric II von Heinsberg gave the church the patronage right to the Premonstratensian monastery in Heinsberg . In 1343/44 the Gangelt church was incorporated into the Heinsberg monastery . From then on, Premonstratensians were mostly pastors here until the monasteries were dissolved in 1802. After that, the parish belonged to the canton of Geilenkirchen in the new diocese of Aachen , later to the archbishopric of Cologne and again in 1925 to the diocese of Aachen.
In the course of the parish reforms in the Diocese of Aachen, the parish of St. Nikolaus Gangelt was incorporated into the community of the Catholic parishes of Gangelt.

According to § 3 (1) a) of the main statute of the municipality Gangelt, the places Gangelt, Mindergangelt and Vinteln form a municipality district. Which is by a local chief in the council represented the town of Gangelt. Gerhard Schütz is the head of the community. (Stand 2013)
