Justinas Vareikis
Justinas Vareikis (* December 1870 in Saleninkai , Jonava Rajongemeinde , † 1956 in Skaruliai ) was a Lithuanian book bearer and soldier.
Life
Justinas Vareikis did not study at school or privately because his parents were too poor. He worked as a raftsman at Šventoji , Neris , Nemunas . At the age of 18 he began smuggling banned Lithuanian literature from Prussia . Because of this, he spent 3 months in Kaunas Prison . After Lithuania's declaration of independence, he protected Jonava and in 1919 volunteered for the Lithuanian Army . He fought against Poles at Radviliškis and Meškuičiai .
He was married and had daughters Jadvyga and Salomėja.
The 5th Middle School Jonava in Rimkai was named after his name (now Justinas-Vareikis- Hauptschule Jonava).
