Radviliškis (German Radwilischken ) is a city in the samehistory
The place name marks the city as the foundation or property of those of Radvila , a family of the Lithuanian nobility . The place was first mentioned in 1529 and received city rights in 1710 .
Military site
Two units of the Lithuanian armed forces are currently stationed in Radviliškis. One is the Air Defense Battalion, which is part of the Air Force . The artillery battalion Brigadier General Motiejaus Pečiulionio was temporarily stationed in Radviliškis until it was moved to Pajūris in 2019 . This was replaced by the newly established Fürst Margiris infantry battalion, which will also be relocated in the coming years.
traffic
As the center of freight traffic, the city is home to the largest marshalling yard in the Baltic States , where routes to the most important cities in Lithuania and Latvia meet. However, with the sharp decline in rail passenger traffic in Lithuania, its importance in the country's tourist traffic has decreased significantly.
The E 272 runs through the city from Palanga (north of Klaipėda ) via Šiauliai and Panevėžys to Vilnius , from Panevėžys under the number A2 as a motorway.
