Old Castle Mains

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Old Castle Mains , even Old Mains Farm is a farm building outside the Scottish town of Milngavie in East Dunbartonshire . It's at the end of a single-lane spur road southwest of Milngavie, halfway to neighboring Bearsden . In 1971 the Old Castle Mains was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in Category B.

description

Old Mains Castle's buildings encompass three sides of a square courtyard. The individual parts of the building complete with slate-covered gable roofs . The two gable surfaces facing the driveway are made as a stepped gable . The adjacent small residential building is a remnant of a former larger building. It also ends with a gable roof with a stepped gable. The facades of the residential building are plastered. Another outbuilding could be a former pigeon tower .

There are plans to release a 10.3 hectare site north of Old Mains Castle as building land, which would connect the building to the outskirts.
