Rickelsbüller Koog and Margrethe Kog are separated by a connecting road that runs in an east-west direction and at the same time represents the border between the aforementioned states. You are a resting place for the Brent Goose , the pink-footed goose , the barnacle goose and other birds.

Conservation goals

In § 3 of the Nature Conservation Ordinance it says: “The nature reserve serves to preserve the part of the former nature reserve 'Bird sanctuary Wadden Sea east of Sylt', which was cut off from the tidal influence of the North Sea by the dike north of the Hindenburg dam . The mudflats and salt marshes that have been shaped by salt water so far will transform into a habitat influenced by fresh water, which must be preserved and developed. "

history

The construction of the Rickelsbüller Koog began in 1979, the inauguration took place in 1981. It is named after the village of Rickelsbüll, which sank in the great flood on December 1, 1615, the remains of which are under the dike between the Wiedingharder Neuen Koog and the Rickelsbüller Koog. In 1982 the Koog was declared a nature reserve and thus replaced the previous protected area " Bird sanctuary Wadden Sea east of Sylt ".

On December 10, 1997, the Schleswig-Holstein state government opened an information pavilion that provides information in both German and Danish about the bird species to be found.
