Ahrenviölfelder Westermoor

The Ahrenviölfelder Westermoor is a nature reserve in the Schleswig-Holstein municipality of Ahrenviölfeld in the district of North Friesland .

The approximately 67.8 hectare nature reserve is registered under number 64 in the directory of nature reserves of the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Areas. It was designated in 1989 (date of regulation: September 21, 1989) and replaces the nature reserve of the same name designated at the beginning of 1966. The nature reserve is almost congruent with the 69 hectare FFH area of the same name . The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of North Friesland.

The nature reserve is located northeast of Husum and northwest of Schleswig in the Arlau lowlands. It places a high moorland that was used until the 1960s ; complex under protection. Although this has been greatly changed by drainage and peat removal , the moor can regenerate itself through rewetting measures. The moor has wide, open areas. Here are u. a. You can find peat moss , cotton grass , rosemary heather and nail bush . The royal fern also occurs again. The former peat cuttings are filled with water. The edge areas of the nature reserve are often covered with bushes and trees. The moor drains via Grunsholmer Bek and ditches to the Arlau. A hiking trail runs through the moor, some of which is designed as a nature trail .

The nature reserve, which is surrounded by agricultural land , is looked after by the Association for Nature Conservation and Landscape Management Central North Friesland.
