description
The nature reserve is located southwest of Husum in the north of the Eiderstedt peninsula, directly behind the main dike line in Adolfskoog . It puts a formerly brackish wetland under protection. This emerged from a swampy landscape in the area of an old, silted up arm of the Hever , from which soil was previously removed for the construction of the dyke. After a dyke reinforcement in 1962, the area is becoming increasingly sweet, which has changed the flora and fauna. Salt-loving plants such as samphire and sand aster have increasingly disappeared , while reeds have colonized large areas.
The reed bed areas provide habitat for numerous birds , including ponds and sedge warbler , reed bunting , bittern and marsh harrier . There are also various ducks , railings , seagulls and geese to be found. The reeds are also the habitat of many insects , amphibians and fish .
The nature reserve is of great importance as a resting area for Limikolen , who look for food in the shallow ponds that are partially drying out. So here u. a. Observe dark water striders , avocets , ruff , redshank and snipe . Various ducks such as spoonbills and teals also rest here.
