description

The nature reserve is located west of Löwenstedt. Most of it is part of the 21 hectare FFH area of the same name . The protected area is characterized by an open heathland with wet and dry areas and juniper bushes as the remainder of a formerly wide heathland. In the east of the protected area there are formerly drained , but regenerative raised bog areas.

The dry areas of Sander landscape are often of heather taken. By the end of the 1970s, it had almost completely disappeared due to obsolescence. Maintenance measures such as the occasional grazing with heather sheep and mowing and, at the beginning of the 1990s, also mechanical pest, led to a new expansion of the common heather. It will continue to be grazed with bog snouts for care. The late bird cherry keeps spreading in the nature reserve and has to be pushed back.

The former embankment of the Bredstedt – Löwenstedt railway line runs through the nature reserve . A path runs through him today. The embankment and some former sand extraction points are of poor grassland with Hypericum perforatum , yarrow , sedum , harebell , tansy and Hasenklee and Aira praecox and Nelkenschmiele , Small Cudweed , Sharp fleabane , English cinquefoil and finger saxifrage marked. The grasslands are an important habitat, especially for insects .

In the south of the nature reserve, quivering aspen grows , which, like the creeping willow, are food sources for various insects such as beetles and butterflies . So here are u. a. the poplar leaf beetle and the small poplar buck and weaver buck .

Damp depressions and silting peat cuttings are taken up by bell heather and pipe grass , and swinging lawns and peat moss can also be found. In some areas, the wiry Schmiele has also spread, fescue and bristle grass lawns can also be found. The grasses threaten to overgrow the dwarf shrub heath, so attempts are being made to push them back through grazing. In the boggy areas there are common horns and willow trees , especially in the eastern part birch trees grow . In addition come Eriophorum angustifolium , Cranberry , Carex rostrata , Bachnelkwurz , pennywort , marsh lily , Utricularia minor and gentian before. Knotweed pondweed has spread in an artificially created pond in the west of the nature reserve, while medium and round-leaved sundew can be found in the bank area .

In addition to the plant species mentioned, u. a. Round-leaved bellflower , low salsify , three-toothed , resin rennet , millet sedge and pill sedge can be found. In the heather areas u. a. Club bear moss , moon rue , finial , arnica , cat's paw , spotted orchid , white forest hyacinth , lung gentian , Solomon's seal , English and hairy gorse , sand bells and devil's bite . The crowberry is also native here. So that it is not overgrown by other heather species and grasses, areas without vegetation have to be created again and again.

The nature reserve is also a habitat for numerous animal species. So here are numerous species of birds , u. a. Partridge , snipe , wood pigeon , skylark , Willow Warbler , Chiffchaff , Tree Pipit , Whinchat , Whitethroat , Wren , Greenfinch , Hawfinch , Yellowhammer , backed Shrike , various waders such as forest and wood sandpiper , snipe, sandpiper and teal home. Shelduck use the rabbit burrows as a nesting place. The eagle owl is now also at home here again. As food guests are various birds of prey such as buzzard , kestrel , hawk and sparrow hawk , also in wintertime Harrier find. Also, short-eared owls come here in winter, and occasionally gray shrike .

Reptiles and amphibians are u. a. by Moor lizard , sand lizard , slow worm , Adder and Moorfrosch represented. Furthermore, the nature reserve is home to numerous butterflies , including Brombeerspinner , grass hen , tailed, poplar hawkmoth , evening Pfauenauge and Emperor Moth , dragonflies such as the Common Emerald Damselfly , cup Azurjungfer , Brown Hawker , the Darter and Black and yellow-winged darter and various beetles , grasshoppers and ants .

To the south, wooded areas border the nature reserve. Otherwise, mainly agricultural areas follow, in the east further open heathland areas of the FFH area "Löwenstedter Sandberge". The nature reserve is looked after by the Schleswig-Holstein State Association of the Nature Conservation Union of Germany .
