Systematics
Eurosiden I
Order : Rose-like (rosales)
Family : Rose family (Rosaceae)
Subfamily : Rosoideae
Genre : Finger herbs ( potentilla )
Type : Decumbent cinquefoil
Scientific name
Potentilla anglica
Laichard.

The lower cinquefoil ( Potentilla anglica agg.) Belongs to the genus cinquefoil ( Potentilla ) within the rose family (Rosaceae). It is in the narrow sense (s. Str.) A artgewordene hybrids of bloodroot ( Potentilla erecta ) and the Creeping finger herb ( Potentilla reptans ). In a broader sense (see left), this group also includes the sterile hybrids of these two cinquefoil species Potentilla × mixta Nolte .

description

Long-handled, fingered leaves
Illustration of the plant parts
Illustration of habitus

The representatives of this collective species are in the characteristics between Potentilla erecta and Potentilla reptans . They grow as wintering, green, perennial herbaceous plants . The rhizome , which is up to 1 cm thick, develops several runners-like, prostrate, 20 to 70 cm long flower stalks that can take root at the nodes from summer onwards. The basal leaves are three to five-fingered and long-stalked. The leaflets are up to 4 cm long and obovate and have four to seven teeth on both sides. The stem leaves are similar, but short-stalked and smaller.

The flowers are single in the leaf axils or a few in zymous inflorescences . The hermaphrodite flowers are four or five-fold and with a diameter of 14 to 18 mm radial symmetry . The petals are yellow.

Other characteristics and differentiation of the hybrids

A certain distinguishing feature between Potentilla anglica (see str.) And Potentilla × mixta is the seed fertility of Potentilla anglica (see str.). He is a constant hereditary bastard with 2n = 56 chromosomes and was also produced experimentally on various occasions . The illustrated herbarium is probably sterile, which could indicate Potentilla × mixta . However, this is not conclusive evidence for these hybrids. All in all, only cytological examinations can provide final certainty about the affiliations.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 56.

ecology

The representatives of Potentilla anglica agg. are hemicryptophytes .

There is insect pollination .

Occurrence

Potentilla anglica agg. occurs mainly in Western and Central Europe and is assigned to the subatlantic floral element .

Potentilla anglica agg comes in Austria and Switzerland . apparently rarely before.

The lower cinquefoil is found more frequently in Germany, especially in northern and eastern Germany. Since Potentilla anglica (s. Str.) Cannot be distinguished morphologically from Potentilla × mixta or from backcrosses with the parent species, differentiated distribution information is currently hardly possible.

Potentilla anglica agg. has the same location requirements as Potentilla erecta or Potentilla reptans.
