Eric Hultén
Oskar Eric Gunnar Hultén (born March 18, 1894 in Halla , Södermanland , † February 1, 1981 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish botanist and phytogeographer . His abbreviation for botanical taxa is Hultén .
Life
Hultén put his licentiate in 1931 at the Stockholm University and then worked as a curator at the Botanical Museum in Lund . He disputed in 1937 at Lund University and received his doctorate . From 1945 until his retirement in 1961, Hultén was professor and head of the botanical department of the Naturhistoriska riksmuseet in Stockholm .
Hultén appeared as the author of several botanical monographs on the Nordic countries and from his travels in Siberia and the Aleutian islands. In his work he was a tireless traveler who examined and cataloged the plants of the northern hemisphere and collected samples of plants. From 1932 on he explored Alaska and the Aleutian Islands in order to give their plants valid names. He was the first researcher to investigate the similarities of the plants in Alaska with those he had collected on previous trips to Siberia since 1937 in connection with the connection by a land bridge , the Beringia , between Alaska and Siberia during the Ice Age sat.
From the marriage with Elsie Hultén came Pontus Hultén .
Honors
The plant genus Hulteniella Tzvelev from the sunflower family (Asteraceae) is named after Hultén .
