The Braderuper Heide / Sylt is a nature reserve in the Schleswig-Holstein communities of Kampen and Wenningstedt-Braderup on the island of Sylt in the district of North Friesland .

General

The approximately 137 hectare nature reserve is registered under number 97 in the directory of nature reserves of the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Areas. It was expelled in 1987 (date of regulation: March 5, 1979). The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the North Friesland district. The nature reserve is looked after by the Sylt Nature Conservation Association.

The nature reserve borders in the east on the nature reserve " Wadden Sea north of Hindenburgdamm " and in the north on the nature reserve " Nielönn / Sylt ". It is part of the FFH area "Dune and Heathland North and Central Sylt" and the EU bird sanctuary "Ramsar area Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea and adjacent coastal areas". It extends along the east coast of the island of Sylt between Kampen and Braderup.

The nature reserve, the dune landscape with the up to 15-meter-high white cliffs in the south and the offshore salt marshes areas in the north and the beach areas in the transition zone to the Wadden Sea under protection. The dune area of heathland , especially heather , bell heather and crowberry taken after the clearing of previously faltering here forests have emerged. Grazing by flocks of migrating sheep as well as other protective measures (mowing, absoding and burning) ensure that the heather plants do not grow old, die and other plants take up space.
