The Lütjenholmer Heidedünen nature reserve is located in the municipality of Lütjenholm in Schleswig-Holstein . It was declared a nature reserve on February 22, 1938. Support is provided by the Geobotany Working Group in Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg. It is at a level between one and three meters above sea level . The Soholmer Au flows near this nature reserve . Its CDDA code is 82125.

The aim of the protection was to preserve a remnant of the heathland that covered large parts of Schleswig-Holstein in the 19th century. The area is one of the largest drift sand and inland dune areas in the Schleswig Vorgeest .

habitat

In some places in the nature reserve, heather bogs have formed, some of which reach a depth of one meter. Many of the plants growing in these areas are endangered species.

The nature reserve, with its heaths and open sandy areas, is one of those areas of Schleswig-Holstein that are of particular importance for heat-loving insects. These animals include rare butterflies, digger wasps , tiger beetles and spiders. The very rare Ural ant is found here, which only applies to a few other locations in this state. Other rare animal species found here include the partridge, the sand lizard and the adder .
