description

Common cat paw ( Antennaria dioica )

Antennaria species are perennial herbaceous plants or subshrubs . Some species form runners above ground , others rhizomes . The alternate leaves are entire and can be stalked or sessile. The leaves are more or less glabrous to hairy on top, but always hairy on the underside.

Single or up to twelve in racemose , trugdoldigen or panicle inflorescences sit unisexual cup-shaped partial inflorescences . The species can be single- sexed ( monoecious ) or dioecious ( dioecious ). The flower heads have a diameter of 2 to 8 millimeters and usually contain 20 to 100 flowers. The flowers are always unisexual. They form achenes with pappus . Apomictic reproduction plays an important role in cat paws . As a result, views on the number of species differ greatly.
