In fact, the border between Germany and Luxembourg forms the common German-Luxembourg sovereign territory across almost the entire state border ; a narrow area on the border rivers to Luxembourg, which is jointly administered by both countries, while the country belongs to the east of the border rivers to Germany and west to Luxembourg. For this reason, almost all border towns in Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate do not border directly on Luxembourg, but only on the jointly administered territory between Luxembourg and Germany. The only German municipalities that actually border on Luxembourg are Waldhof-Falkenstein, Bauler, Körperich and Roth an der Our. At this point, the German-Luxembourgish territory is interrupted, so that these four municipalities share a border with the Luxembourgish municipality of Vianden .
Furthermore, the common German-Luxembourg territory borders Belgium in the north and France in the south.
