Inzlingen (Alemannic: "Inzlige") is a municipality in the district of Lörrach in Baden-Württemberg . The municipality forms an agreed administrative community with Lörrach , but is not part of the urban area.

location

Inzlingen is located in the border triangle of Germany , France and Switzerland and borders directly on Switzerland. The municipal area extends from 314  m to 514  m . To the north, Inzlingen is separated from the town of Lörrach by the narrow Swiss territory of the Iron Hand .

The following cities and municipalities border Inzlingen. Starting in the north, clockwise , they are named: Lörrach , Rheinfelden , Grenzach-Wyhlen (all in the district of Lörrach in Germany), Bettingen and Riehen (both in the canton of Basel-Stadt in Switzerland).

Community structure

The municipality of Inzlingen includes the upper and lower villages, the Waidhof farm and the Kalkwerk houses (formerly brickworks). Around 70% of the municipal area is made up of grassland, meadows, pastures and forests.

history

The settlement got its name from an Alemannic named Enzilo. Inzlingen means: Enzilo's court. Inzlingen was first mentioned in 1228. In 1995, Inzlingen was the winner of the gold medal Our village should become more beautiful .

Buildings

Inzlingen moated castle
Old Town Hall
  • The landmark of Inzlingen is the moated castle, first mentioned in 1511 . The oldest representation is an engraving from the 17th century. Today the moated castle houses the town hall, a restaurant, conference rooms and a ballroom. The moated castle was also depicted on a 50-pfennig postage stamp from the Deutsche Post definitive series Castles and Palaces from 1980. Inzlingen village and moated castle were once owned by the Reichenstein Empire .
  • The oldest house in the village is the Richstein Meierhaus from 1580. The Gothic- style building, which is adjacent to the moated castle , stands out with its stepped gable and its neat wall facade with sundial .

Regular events

Every year in September the Inzlinger Waiefest takes place on the meadow in front of the moated castle . Once a year on Ascension Day in the uneven calendar years the vintage tractors and on even calendar years the vintage motorcycles meet in the town center near the church.

Carnival time

Inzlingen has three carnival cliques of its own :

  • Dännle Häxe Inzlingen
  • Schlössli Symphony Orchestra Inzlingen ("Symphis")

Every year during the carnival season there is an event of the Guggemusik "Schlösslisymphoniker". "Fools" storm the Inzlinger town center or the Inzlinger Erstelhalle.

Both the Hemliglunki event in Inzlingen and the procession on Rose Monday are attended by carnival enthusiasts.

Economy and Infrastructure

After the Second World War , the village developed from an agricultural place to a residential community in the greater Basel area.
