Hasel is located on the southern edge of the Black Forest in the Haseltal between the valleys of the Wiese and the Wehra .

Neighboring communities

The community borders in the south on the town of Wehr in the district of Waldshut and is otherwise surrounded by the area of ​​the town of Schopfheim .

The municipality Hasel includes the villages Hasel and Glashütten and the houses Altmatt and Hasel train station. The Eichenbrunnenhof desert is located in the municipality .

history

Hasel was first mentioned as Hasalaho in a document from the St. Gallen monastery from 820 . Various ecclesiastical and secular rulers had rights in the village until it became the margraviate of Baden in 1503 .

The municipal council in Hasel has 10 members. It consists of the voluntary councilors and the mayor as chairman. The mayor is entitled to vote in the municipal council. In the local elections on May 26, 2019, the local council was elected by majority vote. Majority voting takes place if no or only one nomination has been submitted. The applicants with the highest number of votes are then elected. The turnout was 61.3% (2014: 54.4%).

Natural monuments

The Erdmannshöhle in Hasel is one of the oldest stalactite caves in Germany. Its total length is more than two kilometers, the part accessible to visitors is 360 meters long. In the stalactite cave there is one of the largest and oldest stalactites in Germany, which is over four meters high and over two meters thick at the base. Its age is estimated to be more than 135,000 years. The name Erdmannshöhle goes back to the legendary meerkats and Erdweibchen, who are said to have lived here once and have found their place in numerous legends and stories (including the local poet Johann Peter Hebel).

Architectural monuments

The Evangelical Church Hasel was built in 1779. A baptismal font dates back to 1627 from a previous building documented as early as 1275.

art

The Hasel Art Forum, founded in 1981 by Peter Grüninger , has so far brought over 300 exhibitions by regional, national and international artists to Hasel. The Kunstforum has been located in the Hotel Erdmannshöhle since 1998.

There is agriculture, trade, three restaurants and, thanks to the cave, some tourism in Hasel.

The place was connected to the rail network via the Wehratalbahn ( Schopfheim - Bad Säckingen ) until 1971. A reactivation of the route is currently planned. Hasel has a good connection to the Bad Säckingen-Schopfheim bus service.

A little less than a kilometer south of Hasel, the federal highway 518 runs , which provides a connection to Wehr and Schwörstadt to the south and to Schopfheim to the west via the Eichener Höhe .

education

Hasel has a Protestant kindergarten and a primary school. There are secondary schools in Wehr (Realschule) four kilometers away and in Schopfheim (Gymnasium) seven kilometers away.

  • Kai Saaler (* 1986) is an ultra mountain biker who is both world champion and European champion in 12 and 24 hour mountain biking . In 2019 he organized a 24-hour MTB Guinness Book record attempt, in which he climbed 9,774.19 meters in altitude within 12 hours and 17,391.71 meters in altitude on a mountain bike on unpaved roads within 24 hours. With the event he wanted to draw attention to the nervous disease multiple sclerosis and collect donations. The event thrilled more than 2000 spectators. Together with his supervisory team, he founded the non-profit association KS Endurance eV.
