Geographical location

The twin community of Malsburg-Marzell is located in the rear Kandertal in the south-western Black Forest . The municipality extends over an altitude of 429 meters above sea ​​level up to the 1165 meter high Blauen (also Hochblauen ) and is more than 70% covered by forest. In the northeast, the municipality is connected to the Kleiner Wiesental via the Lipple pass .

In the municipality southeast of the Hochblauen is the probably highest castle site in Baden-Württemberg, Stockburg Castle .

The community borders in the north on Badenweiler in the district of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald , in the east on the community Kleines Wiesental , in the south on Steinen and in the west on the city of Kandern and Schliengen .

Community structure

The community of Malsburg-Marzell consists of the two former communities of Malsburg and Marzell. The former municipality of Malsburg includes the villages of Malsburg, Kaltenbach , Lütschenbach and Vogelbach , Käsacker and the district of Höfe. The village of Marzell and the settlements Friedrichsheim and Luisenheim belong to the former municipality of Marzell. Marzell was first mentioned in a document in 1152, Malsburg in 1301. The oldest district, however, is Kaltenbach, which was mentioned in 1095 and was the ancestral seat of the Lords of Kaltenbach . Due to the reform of the municipality , the municipality of Malsburg-Marzell emerged on January 1, 1974 from the previously independent municipalities of Malsburg and Marzell.

Churches

In Marzell there is also the Protestant Martinskirche , which was mentioned for the first time in the 13th century; the current structure was built in the second half of the 17th century. The Catholic Church of the Assumption dates from the 1950s, but stylistically adapts to the older buildings. The St. Nicholas Church from the 1770s is located in the western suburb of Vogelbach .

In 1994 the young people built a small building outside of Malsburg at the municipal building yard with the active support of the local craftsmen. In the future, this building was to house the youth room. Several generations of young people have made the name of the facility known: “Jugendraum Endstation Malsburg”. Parties are regularly celebrated in the self-supporting youth room.

Economy and Infrastructure

A specialty in the rural community is the Kandertal Clinic, 1½ km north of Marzell above the Friedrichsheim am Berg settlement. Formerly a lung sanatorium, then a therapy clinic for addictions, today, in 2019, it is a family rehabilitation clinic for psychosomatic diseases.
