Kaltenbach is a residential area at 730  m above sea level. NN , which belongs to the municipality of Malsburg-Marzell in the district of Lörrach . The district area covers 450 hectares.

history

According to a copy from the 15th century, the place was first mentioned in 1103 as Caltenbach . This year the Evangelical Church (Kaltenbach) was consecrated to Saint Michael.

In addition to a castle, the village settlement also had its own church and belonged to the Lords of Kaltenbach . There are no more remains of the castle. In the middle of the 12th century, the Lords of Kaltenbach transferred their goods and landed property to the Sanktblasian provost of Bürgeln . In 1232 Kaltenbach passed to the margraviate of Baden-Hachberg , which in 1503 fell to the rule of the margravate of Baden . After the Reformation the church in Kaltenbach became a branch of Vogelbach. The tower, which dates from the 11th century, was given a new nave in 1787.

The place initially belonged to the Vogelbacher Vogtei and in 1823 it became part of the entire municipality of Malsburg and since January 1st 1974 it has belonged to the double municipality of Malsburg-Marzell on the basis of the regional reform in Baden-Württemberg .

Kaltenbach is located on the eastern slope of the Kandertal and can be reached south of Malsburg via a 3.1 kilometer long road through the hamlet of Lütschenbach. From the north, Kaltenbach can be reached from Marzell via a 2.6 kilometer long road. The road connection to the remote Kaltenbach forms a mountain crossing.

The Kaltenbacher Bächle is a brook about 1.5 kilometers long with a catchment area of ​​around 1.4 square kilometers. Its origin lies at 835  m above sea level. NN on the western slope of the Hohwildsberg and flows into the Kander.

The Evangelical Church (Kaltenbach) is located in Kaltenbach and has its origins in the late 11th and early 12th century. The church stands on a slope by the cemetery on the eastern edge of the settlement area.
