The State Archive of Baden-Wuerttemberg comprises all of Baden-Wuerttemberg State Archives . It preserves the historical tradition of the state of Baden-Württemberg since 1952 and the tradition of the predecessor territories since the Middle Ages . Some of these extended beyond what is now Baden-Württemberg. Since the Count of Mömpelgard in Burgundy had belonged to the Duke of Württemberg since the Middle Ages , the administrative records of this county can now be found in Baden-Württemberg. The same applies to the former possessions of the Margraves of Baden in what is now Rhineland-Palatinate and Alsace .

history

On January 1, 2005, the merger of the Baden-Württemberg State Archives Directorate and the six state archives that had been subordinate to it until then came into force. The various offices are located in Stuttgart, Ludwigsburg, Karlsruhe, Freiburg, Sigmaringen, Wertheim, Neuenstein and Kornwestheim.

The six archive departments are responsible for taking over, processing and making available the archive material. The two other departments are service departments responsible for various transnational services in the field of state archives.

The regional information system for Baden-Württemberg ( LEO-BW ) was made available in 2012 .

Departments

The Central Services department handles the central and non-subject-specific “cross-sectional tasks” for all locations of the State Archives. This includes the areas of finance, human resources, law, organization as well as information and communication technology and electronic services.
The department is responsible for the coordination of the specialist tasks as well as for central specialist services which are to be provided for all departments of the State Archives. The focus is therefore on the tasks of building tradition from analog and digital documents, indexing, archival educational work, monument and cultural property protection in archives and publications. In addition, there are services in the field of state research and state description .
