The Hohenlohe Central Archive in Neuenstein is a private aristocratic archive which is managed by a branch of the Ludwigsburg State Archive and is located in Neuenstein Castle .

The Hohenlohe Central Archive is owned by the six lines of the Hohenlohe family . It is responsible for all former and still active administrations of the House of Hohenlohe as well as for the bequests of family members.

history

Over the centuries, the Hohenlohe family was divided into various lines. This also had an impact on the administrations and their archives. At the beginning of the 16th century and the beginning of the 18th century, two joint archives were created. In addition, registries and archives were created at all government offices.

After the Second World War , the various Hohenlohe archives were brought together in Neuenstein Castle. This lasted until the 1980s. The Hohenlohe House signed a contract with the state of Baden-Württemberg in 1971, according to which the archived material remains the property of the Hohenlohe House, but is administered and looked after by the state. In 1975, as a result of this contract, the archive was incorporated into the Ludwigsburg State Archives as a branch.

In July 2007, the Hohenlohekreis and the Baden-Württemberg State Archives agreed to intensify cooperation between the district archive, also located in Neuenstein, and the Hohenlohe Central Archive.

Stocks

The holdings of the archive include documents from the time of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation, which date back to the 11th century, as well as those from the time of the class rule after the mediatization of 1806 and documents on the family history and the development of the princely business enterprises after 1918 to the present.

The community archive of the House of Hohenlohe (founded in 1511) and the community archive of the Hohenlohe-Neuensteiner Line (founded in 1609) were located in a tower of the collegiate church in Öhringen until 1956 . The community house archive of the House of Hohenlohe contains the oldest documents of the House of Hohenlohe and the feudal archive as well as the collective collections of maps and estates of members of the princely family.

The individual line archives (Hohenlohe-Bartenstein, -Jagstberg, -Kirchberg, -Langenburg, -Oehringen, -Schillingsfürst, -Waldenburg and -Weikersheim) contain documents of the counts and princely governments up to mediatization in 1806 as well as the chambers , the consistories (church and school ) and local authorities. Some of the line archives contain important map and musical collections. The records of the 19th and 20th centuries mainly contain documents from domain offices, tax offices and forest administrations.

As part of the community house archive, the Hohenlohe central archive houses the archive of the Lords of Weinsberg , which also contains the estate of the Reich Chamberlain Konrad von Weinsberg .
