Robert Kretzschmar (archivist)

Robert Kretzschmar (born October 31, 1952 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German archivist and historian .

After studying history and English at the universities of Tübingen and Innsbruck, Kretzschmar received his doctorate in 1983 with a thesis on medieval history . After working at the Sigmaringen State Archives and the Ludwigsburg State Archives , he went to the then State Archives Directorate in Stuttgart in 1993. From 1998 to 2006 he was in charge of the Stuttgart State Archives , and from 2006 to 2018 he was the successor to Wilfried Schöntag, President of the Baden-Württemberg State Archives .

From 2005 to 2009 he was chairman of the Association of German Archivists .
