history

Village history

The place was first mentioned as villa Uogilbach around 1130; according to a copy from around 1494. The chapel, which was consecrated to St. Nicholas, dates from 1326.

A Rudolf de Uogilbach, possibly a relative of the men of Kaltenbach , donated his rights to the piece of land to the sanktblasianische provost Bürgeln . Vogelbach was transferred from St. Blasien to the margraviate of Baden-Hachberg and in 1503 to the margravate of Baden . The place became the seat of the bailiwick in the Landgraviate of Sausenberg for a wide area with Malsburg, Lütschenbach, Kaltenbach , Marzell and Wambach. At the end of the 18th century, Marzell left as its own bailiwick. After the Reformation , the parish seat of Kaltenbach, which became a branch, was relocated to Vogelbach. The current church was built in 1760. (→ Evangelical Church Vogelbach )

In 1832 Vogelbach was incorporated into the entire municipality of Malsburg and since January 1st 1974 it has belonged to the dual municipality of Malsburg-Marzell on the basis of the regional reform in Baden-Württemberg .

From the top of the pass, a hiking trail leads up to Sausenburg , which, however, is located in the district of Kandern .
