coat of arms

Blazon : "In red a slanted, silver wavy strip, accompanied by four (3: 1) golden balls at the top according to the figure, and at the bottom by a sheaf of golden corn as a pile."

The silver wavy strip stands for the three watercourses that are important for the integrated community:

  • the Vechte, which flows through the area from southeast to west and on which there was a lively shipping operation until 1859,
  • the Coevorden-Piccardie Canal, built between 1878 and 1882, which was important for peat transport from the moor,
  • the Grenzaa, which rises in the Wietmarscher Moor and forms the northern border of the municipality to the Netherlands from Twist to Coevorden.

The golden balls in red are taken from the coat of arms of the nobles, counts and princes of Bentheim; They make it clear that the joint municipality area has always belonged to the Lower Countess of Bentheim , even if the Gogericht Emlichheim, which was largely identical to the area of today's joint municipality, together with some other goods in the 14th and 15th centuries temporarily in the hands of the Lords of Borculo and who was lords of Gramsbergen.

The four number of balls has a double meaning: It reminds of the four guilds Emlichheim, Laarwald, Rings and Scheerhorn, which formed the "gemeene Kerspel" represented by four "Raedluden", which had the right to wind and mill in the parish of Emlichheim since 1448. These four guilds were the forerunners of today's municipalities of Emlichheim, Laar ,ringen and Hoogstede, which merged in 1974 to form the Emlichheim municipality, with a few minor differences. Even today, the entire community is largely and predominantly characterized by agriculture; the golden corn sheaf stands as a sign of this.

The coat of arms was designed by the heraldist Ulf-Dietrich Korn from Münster.

flag

The rectangular cloth (length: height = 5: 3) is striped lengthways in red and yellow and the front third line is covered with the coat of arms of the municipality.

The flag cloth shows the main colors of the Samtgemeinde coat of arms in red and yellow; they are also the colors of the coat of arms of the Grafschaft Bentheim district.

Economy and Infrastructure

The Emsland Group is based in Emlichheim as the largest European starch producer. Over 1,000,000 t of potatoes, which are delivered from a radius of around 150 km around Emlichheim, are processed here.

The cross-border industrial area Europark is located about 8 km west of Emlichheim within the municipality of Laar and the neighboring Dutch municipality of Coevorden . There is a large goods or container transshipment point called the “Euro Terminal”, which is operated by the Bentheimer Eisenbahn . Furthermore, the controversial waste incineration plant Emlichheim was built there by a Dutch investor .

Another economic factor in the Emlichheim municipality is the plastics processing industry. These include Synco in Emlichheim and Bekuplast and Ringoplast in Neugnadenfeld (Gem. Rings).
