The Emsland-Starke GmbH as the main company in the Emsland Group has Europe's largest potato processing strength factory in Emlichheim in the county Bentheim . The company has an export quota of over 76% and is the global market leader in the manufacture of starch refinement products, potato protein, flakes and granules.

In 1928 the foundation stone was laid for Emlichheimer Kartoffelfabrik AG, from which Emsland-Starke GmbH later emerged. The raw material “potato” is still the basis for the products that are made from it, such as starch refined products and potato protein. These are used as a preliminary product for the food processing industry, for example for the production of potato chips , flour , bread , baked goods , sweets , French fries , detergents, etc. In addition, peas are processed, from which pea starch and the by-products pea proteins and pea isolates are made.

In the main factory in Emlichheim and in the starch factories in Wietzendorf , Golßen and Kyritz , around 1.8 million tons of potatoes are processed into potato starch every year . In the factories in Cloppenburg , Hagenow and Wittingen potato flakes and potato granules are produced. B. serve as raw materials for ready meals and snacks. In addition, the Emsland Group has six (minority) holdings u. a. in Great Britain, Italy, Turkey and the USA, which, however, are not (fully) consolidated.

criticism

In 2008, the company campaigned for genetically optimized starch potatoes such as Amflora . The Emsland Group has now distanced itself from this position and relies on non-genetically modified potatoes.
