Emlichheim waste incineration plant

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Emlichheim waste incineration plant is a waste incineration plant (MVA) that was built around 8 km west of Emlichheim in Europark by a private Dutch investor , among others . The investor owns patents on concrete railway sleepers and initially intended to dispose of discarded wooden railway sleepers there. The joint municipality of Emlichheim , however, was given a binding promise that no wooden railway sleepers or other types of wood requiring supervision should be burned in the waste incineration plant.

A citizens' initiative has been formed against the plant , among other things because the plant allegedly could not have met the limit values that applied to emissions in mid-2004 . On May 16, 2004, 91.72% of citizens spoke out against the MVA in a public survey.

As a result, the land in the Europark was not sold to the investor by the Emlichheim municipality, as it adhered to the vote of the citizens' survey, although it was not legally binding. However, the investor already owns land in Europark and operates a concrete company there. It was therefore possible to build the system on his own site. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on June 22nd, 2006, and the name of the new company is “Europark Verbrennings Installatie”, or EVI for short. The first incineration line went into operation on April 19, 2008, the second incineration line in late summer 2008.
