history

Gohrisch health resort

The village, located on a plateau to the left of the Elbe at the foot of the rock of the same name, was first mentioned in 1437 as Dorffe Gorusch . Until the middle of the 19th century it was dominated by agriculture and only underwent a comparatively modest development. In 1548 the village had 11 local farmers, in 1815 Gohrisch had 20 houses with 93 inhabitants. Due to the quiet, wooded and climatically balanced location, the landowner Adelbert Hauffe welcomed the first summer vacationers to his estate in 1869. Gohrisch is the oldest summer resort in Saxon Switzerland. The positive development of tourism led to a sudden increase in the number of residents and triggered a brisk construction activity. Since 1875 the place could call itself a high altitude health resort and in 1910 already around 700 people lived here. In 1936 the place was given the title of health resort . To this day, tourism is one of Gohrisch's economic pillars. One of the most famous guests was Dmitri Shostakovich , who composed his eighth string quartet (C minor, op. 110) in Gohrisch in 1960 in the guest house of the GDR Council of Ministers , today's Hotel Albrechtshof Gohrisch. But Kim Il-sung , Lotte Ulbricht , Horst Sindermann and many other public figures were guests in the guest house of the GDR Council of Ministers. The former guest house of the Council of Ministers is now a privately run hotel that is very popular with hikers and friends of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. Gohrisch has around 800 inhabitants today.

Kleinhennersdorf

View of Kleinhennersdorf

Kleinhennersdorf was first mentioned in 1439 as the Wyndische Heynersdorff , where windisch means as much as small. The livelihoods of the inhabitants of the Waldhufendorf village established by Franconian settlers were agriculture, cattle breeding and forestry until the 19th century. Since the 17th century, sandstone was also mined in several quarries . In the 19th century, the place developed into one of the summer resorts in Saxon Switzerland. The local development was however modest. In 1501 the village only had 6 resident farmers, in 1840 there were about 300 inhabitants, in 1919 about 500 inhabitants. Today there are about 250 inhabitants. Kleinhennersdorf was incorporated into Papstdorf in 1974, but regained its independence in 1990. Four years later, the four towns merged to form the Gohrisch community. The Liethenmühle , which was built in 1572, belongs to the place . The sandstone caves on the Kleinhennersdorfer Stein are also a tourist attraction .

In the municipality part of Cunnersdorf (mentioned as belonging to Bohemia in 1379, Saxon in 1454), called Kunradsdorf until 1627 , an electoral forester's farm was established under Elector August in the 16th century (was raised in 1556 or 1606 and came into the possession of the Barons von Friesen in 1872 ). The village is located in the middle of extensive forests between 270 and 320  m above sea level. NN in a basin of the Cunnersdorfer Bach . Some three-sided farms with sandstone substructures and half-timbered storeys can still be seen today, including the forest farm located to the south with a manor house, farm buildings and a gatehouse. The neo-Romanesque church from 1854/55 impresses with its altarpiece.

In the district of Viebig on the right side of the Cunnersdorfer Bach is the former upper mill. The grinding and board mill is documented in 1561. The board mill was last in operation in 1955. The Cunnersdorfer nature trail was laid out by the local nature lovers. It leads south over the Katzstein plateau to 474  m above sea level. NN high Katzfels, where in 1809 the last wildcat is said to have been shot. Right below it is the Katzstein ( 444  m above sea level ). The district also has a forest pool with a wide slide, water mushroom and children's playground. In 1445 Cunnersdorf had six residents, in 1609 there were already 33 residents. In 1840 about 600 people lived in the village. Today there are about 420 people who live here.

Papal Village

The church of Papstdorf

Papstdorf was first mentioned in 1371 as Bogansdorff . The current name first appeared in 1555 in the form of Babstdorff . For many centuries, Papstdorf, like Gohrisch, Cunnersdorf and Kleinhennersdorf, was a purely farming community. The inhabitants pursued agriculture and forestry. In 1501 the village had 14 residents, in 1601 there were 22 residents and around 1840 about 260 inhabitants lived here. In the middle of the 19th century, tourist development began in Papstdorf as well. A restaurant was built on the plateau of the Papststein in 1862, which was later extended by a wooden observation tower. In 1919 the village already had over 600 inhabitants. During the GDR times, the central pioneer camp " Klement Gottwald " was located in the village and was operated by VEB Verkehrsbetriebe Dresden .

International Shostakovich Days

The "International Shostakovich Days" have been held in Gohrisch since 2010, as Shostakovich stayed in the former guest house of the GDR Council of Ministers in Gohrisch for a cure in 1960 and 1972 and in 1960 composed his 8th string quartet at the small pond.

In 2011 the conductor Kurt Sanderling received the non-endowed International Shostakovich Prize Gohrisch .

Place of origin of the Saxon state constitution

In the seclusion of the rural health resort Gohrisch, the Saxon state constitution was drawn up after the political change . A memorial plaque on the municipal office today reminds of this event. In a speech on the 20th anniversary of the Saxon Constitution on June 5, 2012, the President of the State Parliament Matthias Rößler recalled this as follows: “The 'Gohrisch Draft', named after Gohrisch in Saxon Switzerland, was the basis of our constitution. The "Gohrischer draft" was not the brainchild of some constitutional lawyers, but the combination of the highest legal expertise that was available in Germany at the time and the will of the Saxon people. "

Economy and Infrastructure

Gohrisch lives primarily from tourism and agriculture . In 2013, the municipality and its districts had 20 accommodation facilities with 841 beds available, in which 33,689 arrivals and 116,771 overnight stays were registered. In 2013, a total of 465 employees subject to social security contributions were recorded in the municipality (employees at work), 182 of which were in the mining and manufacturing sector. The only employer in this area was the Cunnersdorf-based country bakery Schmidt, which operates almost 30 branches in Dresden and Saxon Switzerland. However, in 2014 the company relocated its production to the Leupoldishain industrial park . Two thirds (2,315 hectares) of the municipal area are forest areas and a good quarter (981 hectares) are agricultural areas. In 2010 there were seven farms in the municipality.
