About this picture

Dohma is a municipality in the district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains in southern Saxony. The community forms an administrative community with the district town of Pirna .

geography

location

The community of Dohma is about 3 km south of Pirna . The community is located on the plateau or on the valley slopes between the Bahretal and Gottleubatal .

Local division

The municipality of Dohma includes the three districts Dohma, Cotta and Goes as well as the district Dürrhof . The district Cotta is divided into Großcotta (Cotta A) and Kleincotta (Cotta B).

history

Dohma

The village of Dohma and the later incorporated villages in the area were founded in the 14th century. The forest hoof village was first mentioned in 1315 as Domyn . Other names of Dohma over the centuries were Dame , Dahme , Dohme (15th century), Thoma or Dhoma (17th century). The individual settlements in the Bahretal and around the stone saw and the Vorwerk gradually grew together to form a row village. The owners of the village changed frequently, and so Dohma always belonged to different areas of administration. The number of inhabitants grew steadily, 1695 18 were for example Anspänner counted ( Zweihüfner , Anderthalbhüfner, Eindreiachtelhüfner, Eineinviertelhüfner, Einhüfner, Dreiviertelhüfner, Halbhüfner and Viertelhüfner and five gardeners). Around 1840, a Vorwerk, 14 farms, 4 garden food , 14 cottages, a mill and around 200 residents are documented in the local area , before the First World War 888 residents, afterwards only 784 people. A glassworks and the sandstone industry ( Cotta sandstone ) emerged.

District of Goes

Village green, Rundling Goes

Goes originated and developed as a typical rural village . For a long time, three and two-sided courtyards dominated the village image. Goes grew out of the Rundling with the neighboring settlements of Lohmgrund , Depot and Neu-Goes . Traditional spellings of the village over time were Gose , Goor , Gaer and Gäs . In 1526 it was called Goß in the pirnische care . For a long time there was a division between the manor Zehista of Heinrich v. Schönfeld and the Rottwerndorf manor. The following development can be traced to the number of inhabitants: 10 owned mennre of the Spital zu Donen (Dohna) (1501), 1900 “there were a total of 309 souls in 40 residential buildings. In 1910 there were 325 inhabitants, in 1919 only 267 ”. The church affiliation changed from Dohna to Pirna around 1540 . Grain cultivation and fishing formed the livelihoods of the inhabitants.

Cotta district

Cotta developed from an estate that was laid out by the Burgrave of Dohna around the year 1000. This was used for logging and the further processing or resale of the logs for the construction of the first wooden Dresden bridge. The different spellings of the village name were Cottaw , Kuttaw , Kotthenn . Here, too, the owners and thus the domains often changed. The village that emerged from the estate is considered a forest hoof village , to which the scattered settlements Groß- and Klein-Cotta as well as the Steger mill and a mine Die Zeysel were added. In 1821, the estate included “402 1/5 arable land, brewery, distillery, fishing, medium and low hunt, lime and brick distillery and 800 sheep”. There is evidence of the first church in the village from 1311.

The outstanding feature of the landscape is the Cottaer Spitzberg with a height of 792 feet (= 241 m), from which there is a "wide, magnificent panoramic view". According to a legend, dwarfs, or quarks according to the vernacular , live there.

Dohma coat of arms
Blazon : “Divided by a silver gopel in gopel cut; in front above a silver dwarf walking in red, above on a floating silver thread bent upwards a silver rock with a silver column at its highest point; in the back, in blue, three floating silver wave threads, above a richly decorated silver house behind a silver fence bordered by two silver gates; below on the silver floor silver linden tree between two silver tree stumps. "
Coats of arms:
Coat of arms before 2015
Until 2015, the coat of arms was a linden tree with tree stumps underneath, although some attempts have been made to create a new coat of arms.

It was not until 2015 that a new coat of arms was created based on an idea from the incumbent mayor Matthias Heinemann. The graphic work was then carried out by Mr. Näther from Dohma.

The linden tree with the two tree stumps of the already existing coat of arms was used for Dohma, which was reduced in size for the tripartite division of the coat of arms shield. The background with the color green refers to the area and natural monuments of the place. For the district of Goes, a section from an existing coat of arms was used and the water was laid out symbolically with wavy lines. Since the water in the place is the central point here, the background color blue was chosen. The original coat of arms could no longer be used for Cotta, as there was no symmetry here and a church or manor could not necessarily serve as a landmark. Cotta's landmarks, on the other hand, are the Spitzberg and the legendary Querkse (dwarfs), which can now be found in the coat of arms. Since the Spitzberg is based on volcanic origin, the district was given the color red as a background.
