Location of the municipality of Hermsdorf / Erzgeb. in the district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains | ||
Hermsdorf / Erzgeb. (formerly Hermsdorf bei Frauenstein ) is a municipality in the district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains in Saxony (Germany). It is part of the Altenberg administrative community .
geography
The municipality of Hermsdorf with the districts Seyde and Neuhermsdorf is located between Altenberg and Frauenstein on the ridge of the Eastern Ore Mountains on the border with the Czech Republic .
history
Around 1300 Franconian settlers settled in the area in the middle of the primeval forest that once covered the entire Ore Mountains in order to use the abundance of wood. Forestry and agriculture , trade with nearby Bohemia and mining shaped life in the community between the source areas of the Wilden Weißeritz and the Gimmlitz . Hermsdorf got its name from its locator Hermann . From the original name "Hermannstorff", the current spelling developed via "Hermesstorff" and "Hermsdorff".
August Schumann mentions Hermsdorf in 1817 in the State, Post and Newspaper Lexicon of Saxony regarding a. a:
“Hermsdorf is said to have its origins in the area where the church stands, and which is called the disk, and a certain forest area of the nearby pottery forest, called the potter's wheel. A piece of field was usually called a disk that had little circumference and was more level than the surroundings of it. The church in Hermsdorf is the only one of the office that cannot be found in the register of the diocese of Meißen from 1346, but was already there at the time of the Reformation. It is said to have stood as a chapel as early as the 14th century, which belonged to Frauenstein as a daughter church. [...]
From the earliest times, there was a customs post at Hermsdorf, where only graz tariffs were collected. By order of August 23, 1683, the customs collector Michael Meyer zu Einsiedel built an escort house above this village, on Hemschuhwalde, at his own expense, to which, at his request, the customs and landaccis collection and escort were moved. […] Hermsdorf, which has 40 tension hooves, 40 magazine hooves and 43 ⅜ marching hooves, counted 53 farms in 1748, in addition to the inheritance court, which is now royal and has had brewing justice since the earliest times, but which was moved to Rechenberg and 39 cottagers , and in 1815 there were 54 farms and 47 cottagers there, in all 700 consumers. […] In the Hermsdorfer Flur, most of the winter grain is built in the Frauenstein district, only the inhabitants are sometimes unfortunate that the grain does not ripen or that part remains under the snow. […]
The corridor of this large village of Hermsdorf is still particularly remarkable because of the mighty limestone deposits and the lime kiln . [...] With the hustle and bustle of agriculture, an extraordinary amount of quicklime is used for fertilization every year. Many landlords burn these raw limestones in their own small ovens, called Schneller, extinguish the limestone with water and then sprinkle it on the field. Previously there were two lime distilleries in Hermsdorf, namely that of the office and that of the emperor there. 10 to 12,000 tons of lime were deposited on both of them annually. [...] The largest part of the limestone, lime and wood from the Nassau district is moved along the Freiberg Landstrasse, which runs through here. At the present time there is also some mining in Hermsdorf. The village includes 3 mills with five gears , including the vinegar mill . "
On March 1, 1994, the previously independent municipality of Seyde was incorporated.
coat of arms
The crossed tools of the miner, mallets and irons , point to the long mining tradition of the place. The branch with the berries of the mountain ash ("rowan berries", or "Vugelbeerbaam" in the Erzgebirge) refers to the location in the Erzgebirge, where the mountain ash is a much-seen tree.
