history

The Herklotzmühle was recorded for the first time in the map series of the first Saxon state survey by Matthias Oeder . This dates from the years 1586 to 1607. The mill has probably existed since 1446. An indication of this is the second passage of the tin bridge about 200 m upstream. This contains a stone with this year. If this second pass already existed when the bridge was built, then there must have been a mill at this location at that time.

The mill was operated as a sawmill until 1992 . Since 2003 it has been maintained and renovated as a sawmill museum under the direction of the Herklotzmühle eV association . Since 2007, the drive has been functional again thanks to the installation of the comb wheel . The work was / is financially supported by funds from the LEADER + initiative and the Free State of Saxony as well as from sponsors and donors. The historical and fully functional sawing and wheelwright technology, which is driven by transmission belts, has been preserved. Since 2015, the mill has also had a restored combined band saw with planing machine and planer.

The historical mill technology is still functional and can be demonstrated for museum visitors. In June 2017, a reconstructed larch wood water wheel was installed.
