Rehefeld-Zaunhaus is a district of the Saxon town of Altenberg and is located on the Ore Mountains ridge between Hermsdorf and Altenberg.

Geographical location

The altitude of the place is 650–845 m above sea ​​level , it is considered the coldest place in Saxony and the most snow-sure place in the Eastern Ore Mountains . Its corridors are located in the headwaters of the Wilden Weißeritz . The Hermsdorf-Rehefeld stop on the Nossen – Moldava railway line still existed until 1972 . The narrow-gauge Pöbeltalbahn should branch off here.

The neighboring towns of Rehefeld-Zaunhaus are Altenberg , Zinnwald-Georgenfeld , Hermsdorf / Erzgeb. , Seyde , Schmiedeberg and Schellerhau . On the Czech side there are Moldava ( Moldau ) and Cínovec ( Hinterzinnwald ).

history

The oldest district is Zaunhaus. In 1550 reference was made to a hunter's house and a little later to three other houses. In 1557 a mill was built.

The place Rehefeld was later founded under the name Sorgefrey in the Altenberg office . An upper raft master Henry of Romans bought the mill in 1606 and the Vorwerk Sorgenfrey . Later lumberjacks settled in a clearing near the Vorwerk. The hunting lodge located there was a Christmas present from Crown Princess Carola of Saxony to her husband, Crown Prince Albert of Saxony , in 1869 .

Neurehefeld, located on the Hemmschuh , was built after 1683 and is located by the escort house , which stood on the important connecting road from Hermsdorf through the Hemmschuhwald , the old Freiberg-Teplitzer Poststrasse . Today nine people live here.

Two royal Saxon milestones from the time of 1859/1860 on the old Poststrasse (Abzweigstein and Ganzmeilenstein) in the Hemmschuhwald near Neurehefeld were restored in 2005 and re-erected in 2012.

Rehefeld-Zaunhaus has been part of the city of Altenberg since January 1st, 1994.

Memorials

In the local cemetery , graves and a memorial stone of the FIR commemorate two unknown concentration camp prisoners who were murdered by SS men in the spring of 1945 on the death march of a subcamp .

In the vicinity of Rehefeld-Zaunhaus there is a wide network of hiking trails with many geological and mineralogical views and the international mountain hiking trail Eisenach-Budapest . In winter, a ski lift and a toboggan lift delight visitors. The Hemmschuh nature reserve is an interesting biotope.
