Rudolphsdorf is a district of the village of Fürstenwalde , which today belongs to the Saxon town of Altenberg in the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district.

geography

The place is located above Fürstenwalde, directly on the Bohemian border. A single homestead, the old forester's house (at the Haberfeldwald) is located directly on the border in an inhospitable area.

history

The place Rudolphsdorf (named after the Lauensteiner castle lord Rudolph von Bünau ) is said to have been founded as a Vorwerk and has always belonged to Fürstenwalde .

One of the early glassworks in the Eastern Ore Mountains probably stood here as early as 1400 . In the visitation files of 1539 there is the following entry on the income of the Fürstenwälder pastor: “Should follow the interest or december of Nauendorffe, the glassworks genanth” (Hermann Löscher, 1954). In 1555 one writes: "Newndorffel, the glassworks genanth". At that time, the hut was probably extinguished long ago, as the Ore Mountains need the wood for ore mining.

Rudolphsdorf was called Ober Wiesenberg at the beginning of the 19th century and was portrayed by copper engraver Bach in 1810.

After the evictions in 1945, many buildings across the border were demolished. Many of the buildings in the German part were demolished during the construction of the Gottleuba drinking water dam (construction period: 1965–1974), as the water catchment area is located here . The same happened to the communities of Kleinliebenau and Oelsengrund. The residents of Rudolphsdorf were relocated to Fürstenwalde in specially built apartment blocks. Today only a few families live in Rudolphsdorf.

Since Fürstenwalde became part of Geising in 1994, Rudolphsdorf has also belonged to this town. Geising was incorporated into Altenberg on January 1, 2011.

Since 2006, as part of a project by the BUND Landesverband Sachsen e. V the resettlement of the ground squirrel in the Eastern Ore Mountains .
