history

Haiming Castle after a copper engraving by Michael Wening (1721)

The places Haiming (as Heiminka) and Niedergottsau (as Nidikeltesauuua) were first mentioned in documents 1200 years ago in documents about donations to the cathedral church St. Stephan Passau and the cathedral church Salzburg under Duke Tassilo III. who ruled until 788.

More recent excavation finds (urn grave fields) however allow the conclusion that people settled in Haiming as early as 1200 BC.

The historical development was shaped by the court brands Piesing and Haiming. At Haiming Castle , among others, the nobles von Tobelham, von Pelkofen and von Pöring ruled. The castle owners were given upper ownership of the property and the lower jurisdiction. In 1667 Haiming got married to Baron Adam Kaspar von Freiberg. After the death of Baron Karl von Freiberg, his widow Maria Theresia, née Baroness von Gemel, a weekly mass for him on February 1, 1786 in the parish church of Haiming. She married a Freiherr von Berchem , rent master von Burghausen, to whom the rule fell along with the Piesing estate.

The court brands were united under the Berchem. The old moated castle was demolished from 1837 to 1840. Between 1838 and 1840, Count Sigmund von Berchem built the new Haiminger Castle above the castle pond.

Parish Church of St. Stephen

After the counts of Berchem died out in 1869, Baron Sigismund Felix von Ow , the 14-year-old son of Josefine, the eldest daughter of Count Sigismund von Berchem and the district judge and district administrator Felix Freiherr von Ow, became the owner of Piesing and Haiming. He became a priest and handed over the inherited property to his brother Anton Freiherr von Ow. Sigismund Felix became Bishop of Passau in 1906. Until now residing Ow both Piesing and in Haiming.

Today's municipality of Haiming was created through the voluntary amalgamation of the municipalities of Piesing and Haiming on January 1, 1969. On January 1, 1970, parts of the previously independent municipality of Schützing were reclassified to Haiming.

Population development

Between 1988 and 2018 the community grew from 2,083 to 2,493 by 410 inhabitants or 19.7%.

Haiming includes the parish of Haiming with the parish church of St. Stephanus (built in 1485) and the Niedergottsau branch with the pilgrimage church of the Assumption of the Virgin (built in 1443, significantly expanded and redesigned in 1760).

coat of arms

Haiming coat of arms
Blazon : "In gold over a lowered blue wavy head, a red-tongued black bear's trunk, which holds a black halberd in the front paw."

The Wellengöpel indicates that the Inn and Salzach converge in the municipal area. The history of the municipality was mainly shaped by the two farm brands Haiming and Piesing. Representing the many noble families who can be verified as owners of these court brands, the Pürchinger family was taken into account in the municipal coat of arms, with a bear with a halberd in their coat of arms.
