Heckhuscheid is a municipality in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Prüm .
geography
Heckhuscheid is located on a wooded plateau on the Schneifel , the western foothills of the Eifel , with its raised bogs close to the border with Belgium .

history
The development of the street settlement goes back to the 12th century. The place was first mentioned in 1532 as Hoscheid . The name Heckhuscheid first came into use in the 18th century . "Heck" was inserted to distinguish two other villages with the name "Huscheid". "Heck" probably means "Hecke" or "Niederwald".
Until the end of the 18th century, Heckhuscheid belonged to the administrative and judicial district of the Leidenborn dairy in the Dasburg lordship in the Duchy of Luxembourg . In 1794 French revolutionary troops occupied the Austrian Netherlands , to which the Duchy of Luxembourg belonged, and annexed it in October 1795 . Heckhuscheid belonged to the canton of Arzfeld , which was administratively assigned to the Arrondissement Bitburg in the department of forests . Like the surrounding towns, Heckhuscheid became Prussian in 1815 . Under the Prussian administration, Heckhuscheid was assigned to the mayor's office in Leidenborn in the newly formed district of Prüm in the administrative district of Trier , which belonged to the Rhine province from 1822 onwards. The municipality has been part of the Prüm Association since 1970 .

Municipal council
The council in Heckhuscheid consists of six council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the honorary mayor as chairman.
Culture and sights
Buildings
- The Chapel of St. Catherine is located on Dorfstrasse . It was first mentioned in 1532 . In 1864 it was torn down to the ground because it was in disrepair and rebuilt in 1868 in a neo-Romanesque style.
- Seven old wayside crosses are also worth seeing, especially the Katharinenkreuz .
- Not far from Heckhuscheid ran the Western Wall . At Landesstraße 9 in the direction of Üttfeld , well-preserved parts of the hump line from the National Socialist era can still be viewed .
Regular events
- On the third Sunday after Pentecost , Heckhuscheid celebrates a fair every year .
- Every year at the end of September there is the Hannerbesch party in Heckhuscheid, which has now grown into the largest parties in the region. This is organized by the Heckhuscheid youth
- Theater in Heckhuscheid in November. The Heckhuscheider have been delighting audiences on stage for over eighty years.
