Rommersheim is a municipality in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Prüm .
geography
Rommersheim is located in the North Eifel nature park near the Schneifel ridge on the upper reaches of the Nims .
The community consists of the two districts of Rommersheim and Ellwerath . The Breitwiesental, Meuteshof, Rommersheimerheld and Weinsheimerheld residential areas also belong to the Rommersheim district .
history
The first documentary mention was made as romaira villa in 721. The name is possibly of Roman origin: "Home of Romar (Hruomar)". Rommersheim was probably the central settlement of the Caeroser (Karoser / Käruser) in the Carosgau . The place belonged to the manorial power of the Prüm Abbey (later the prince abbey ). Until 1190, Rommersheim was the original parish for many places in the area. The parishes of Prüm, Olzheim, Gondenbrett, Wetteldorf, Fleringen, Weinsheim, Wallersheim, Schwirzheim, Mürlenbach, Birresborn, Densborn, Duppach, Lauch and Pronsfeld were established by 1330.
In 1498, today's parish church of St. Maximin was built on the foundations of older predecessor buildings (from around AD 650 and 1063). 1576, the verleibte Archbishop of Trier , the Abbey Prüm in his electorate , and therefore Rommersheim belonged to the Electorate of Trier . In 1794 the French revolutionary troops marched in. After 1798 the Mairie Rommersheim was established in the arrondissement of Prüm. In 1815 the Prussian region was allocated, the mayor's office in Rommersheim now belonged to the Prüm district . On January 1, 1971, the previously independent community of Ellwerath with 56 inhabitants at that time was incorporated into Rommersheim.

Municipal council
The municipal council in Rommersheim consists of twelve council members who were elected in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote, and the honorary local mayor as chairman.
Attractions
- The parish church of St. Maximin is a late Gothic three-bay hall building with a three-story tower from the 19th century.
- The historic town center shows restored and renovated Eifler farmhouses.
