geography

The community is divided into the districts:

  • Auw with the residential areas Heidehof and Schlausenbachermühle
  • Laude field with some houses of the hamlet Herzfenn that otherwise the local church Oberlascheid belongs
  • Schlausenbach with the districts of Kesselsfenn and Traudenfenn, which have now grown together, as well as the Hascheid residential area

Schlausenbach is located southeast of the core town on the Schlausenbach, one of the source streams of the small river Auw , which dammed into a small lake just before the state border and forms the German-Belgian border below the dam.

The places across the border belong to the Belgian municipalities of Büllingen in the north and Sankt Vith in the west.

history

Auw farm

Auw belonged in the Middle Ages to rule Schoenberg and was mentioned in 1342 in documents for the first time, as Zils (Gilles, Giles), Mr. Daun and his wife Kunigunde their court to "Auwe in Oyslinck" ( Islek ) for 400 plate guilders on repurchase of Konrad Herr von Schönberg sold. The rule of Schönberg came to Kurtrier in 1375 , which changed the rule to the office of Schönberg at the beginning of the 16th century . From 1540 onwards, Auw was one of the three administrative units designated as “courtyards” within the Schönberg office . The villages of Kobscheid , Roth , Schlausenbach , Verschneid and Wischeid also belonged to the “Hof Auw” . In Auw there was a court for the Auw and Manderfeld farms, to which seven lay judges belonged and which was presided over by an official school.

In 1624 Auw had 22 households or farms, these must have been stockyards , making it one of the larger villages in the region.

Parish Auw

The old parish at the church of St. Peter and Paul zu Auw belonged to the Eifel deanery in the Cologne diocese . The current parish church was built around 1530, the church tower is assigned to the 11th century. The villages of Kobscheid, Laudesfeld, Roth, Schlausenbach, Verschneid and Wischeid were included. Branch chapels were in Kobscheid (St. Franz Xaver, since around 1686), Roth (St. Leonhard, built around 1500) and Schlausenbach.

An Auwer pastor named "Campensis" was burned as a witcher on the Radsberg in 1627.

Today Auw belongs to the deanery “St. Willibrord Westeifel ”in the Diocese of Trier .

Mayor's office Auw

In connection with the Napoleonic Wars , the region came under French administration in 1794. From 1798 on, Auw belonged to the canton of Schönberg in the Prüm arrondissement of the Saar department . Auw retained its administrative function as the seat of a mairie . This included the places of the previous "Hof Auw" and Laudesfeld.

After the Rhineland came to the Kingdom of Prussia in 1815 on the basis of the treaties of the Congress of Vienna , Auw became the seat of the mayor's office of the same name in the newly created district of Prüm in the Trier administrative district in 1816 . The same places belonged to the mayorry as under French administration. The mayor's office was administered from Bleialf . In 1933 the Auw office (all mayor offices were renamed to offices in 1927) together with the Bleialf , Habscheid and Winterscheid offices were dissolved and the Bleialf office was re-established, which existed until 1968.

Due to the regional and administrative reform in Rhineland-Palatinate that began in the mid-1960s, Auw came to the Bitburg-Prüm district (now the Bitburg-Prüm district) on November 7, 1970.

On January 1, 1971, the previously independent municipalities of Laudesfeld (120 inhabitants), Schlausenbach (134) and Wischeid (128) were incorporated, and on the same day the municipality of Auw was given the suffix “bei Prüm”.
