geography

location

Büdesheim is located on the B 410 about ten kilometers from the cities of Prüm and Gerolstein on the eastern edge of the community of Prüm .

Altitude

The place is at an altitude of 450 to 480  m . Heights northwest of the place reach up to 545  m and south 560  m . The Apert is 631.3  u m. NHN the highest mountain in the district.

geology

The place Büdesheim lies in a wide valley on the eastern edge of the Prümer Kalkmulde . The valley as a local trough consists of Upper Devonian "Büdesheimer Goniatite slate", including "Ooser Plattenkalk", and is surrounded by the Central Devonian dolomite ridges (Schönecker dolomite, Givetium stage, approx. 360 million years old). To the south and south-east of the village there are Lower Devonian Klerfer strata. The upper part of the aperture is made of quartzite . A remnant of basalt at the Apert, the active mineral spring and the directly neighboring Eigelbacher Trockenmaar shows the beginning of the Vulkaneifel to the east .

history

Finds from the Neolithic Age showed that there was a settlement near Büdesheim in the Dreisbachtal where stone tools were manufactured.

After the turn of the century , the Romans built the Roman road from Trier to Cologne on the southern ridge . This road may have moved a wealthy Roman to build his villa a little further away in the fertile valley, in the area of today's church. Remnants of this villa were excavated when the nave was rebuilt in 1909, along with a water pipe for a bath. In the wider area of Büdesheim and Oos (today part of Gerolstein ), the town of Ausava was built on the Roman road . Grave finds from the 1st and 2nd centuries still confirm this Roman settlement. During the Germanic storm 275/276 Ausava was destroyed and no longer rebuilt.

After the Romans, the Franks settled Büdesheim in the 5th century . Frankish grave finds were made from the Merovingian period .

middle Ages

In 778, the Franconian Helmoin donated his property in the Büdesheim area to the Prüm Abbey . In 893 a church was first mentioned in writing in the Prümer Urbar . In the donation from Euerhard from 964, a Willefrid is named as the first pastor . In 1063 the parish was consecrated and the parish was circumscribed by Bishop Eberhard . The church was rebuilt in 1500 and the choir is still preserved today.

Modern times

In 1576 Büdesheim came to the Electorate of Trier . As a result, a noble family with ownership of the farm and mill was formed. From 1687 to the 19th century, the nave, the tower and the sacristy were rebuilt. In the 18th century, Büdesheim became a mayor's office (separate administrative and judicial district) in the Trier district of Prüm. A survey in 1777 revealed 320 inhabitants and 39 houses for the village. In 1794 French revolutionary troops moved in and made Büdesheim part of the Saar department in 1798 , Büdesheim became the capital of a mairie in the canton of Prüm . In 1815 Büdesheim became the seat of a mayor's office under the Prussian administration . In 1883 the Westeifelbahn was built between Gerolstein and Prüm through the Vlierbachtal with a train station in Büdesheim. This line has not been in operation since 1980. 1970/71, during the administrative reform, Büdesheim remained in the Verbandsgemeinde Prüm-Land (today the Association of Prüm), but became part of the new Bitburg-Prüm district (today the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm). In 1992 the pilgrims' chapel was rebuilt.

Place name

The place name is probably derived from the personal name Budin and the ending -heim (early days of Frankish conquest). The name is interpreted as the home, estate of Budin . The first documentary mention was made in 778 as Bidonisuaim in a deed of gift to the Prüm Abbey (donation from Helmoin). The name Büdesheim has been documented since 1807 .

Blazon : "Divided by red over silver, above a growing golden crowned lion, on the shoulder a silver six-pointed star, below five (2: 1: 2) red rings."
Foundation of the coat of arms: Two farms in Büdesheim, the mayor's office of the Prüm Abbey , came to Gerlach Auwach as a fief in 1579 . Even now there is the Auwart'sche Haus in Büdesheim, with the coat of arms of the von Auwart family. "There was also a noble family from Büdesheim who owned the Büdesheimer Hof zu Büdesheim and the mill there." The von Büdesheim had 5 (2: 1: 2) rings in their coat of arms; they are in the lower part of the municipal coat of arms. The Auwart's coat of arms, the lion, is in the upper part of the municipal coat of arms.

  • The church of St. Peter and Paul with the coat of arms of the Trier Elector Johann Hugo von Orsbeck at the entrance portal (1687) is worth seeing . The choir comes from the old church from 1500 and the sacristy from an extension from 1687. Today's church nave and tower were rebuilt in 1909.
