The Apert is a 631.3 u m. NHN high wooded mountain in the western Vulkaneifel , a low mountain range in the German state Rhineland-Palatinate . It rises about two kilometers south of Büdesheim and is the highest point in the district .
geology
The area belongs to the Rhenish Slate Mountains ; the subsoil of the Apert consists of the fossil-rich Büdesheim slate and flinz , a rock from the lower Upper Devonian . Fossils of the orders (partly as reference fossils ) Buchiola , Cheiloceras , Goniatites , Clymenia , Orthoceras and Manticoceras are represented .
