Kopp is a municipality in the Vulkaneifel district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It is located in the Vulkaneifel and belongs to the Gerolstein community .

geography

The community lies in the west of the nature park Eifel and in the conservation area "Gerolstein and the surrounding area". The district of Eigelbach lies on the bottom of a dry maar , the Eigelbacher Maar. The community also includes the Berghof, Eichenhof, Kirsthof and Schäfersruh residential areas .

history

Kopp, (derived from Kuppe) was first mentioned in a document in 1286 (at that time it was owned by the Prüm Abbey ). First evidence of settlement as early as Roman times ( Roman road Trier – Cologne nearby).

As part of the Rhineland-Palatinate functional and territorial reform, the municipality of Kopp was reclassified together with 14 other municipalities on November 7, 1970 from the district of Prüm , which was dissolved at the same time, to the district of Daun (since 2007 the district of Vulkaneifel).
