The community lies in the Vulkaneifel Nature Park , and some in the conservation area "between OVP and Kyll".

history

The first mention of the place under the name "Witenbuoch" can be found in a certificate from Emperor Heinrich II. From October 17, 1016, in which he gave the Prümer Abbot Urold possessions in Weidenbach ("Witenbuoch"), Stadtfeld ("Stadefelt") and Ließem ("Liudesheim") confirmed. The possessions were used to maintain the collegiate church in Prüm , founded by Urold in 1016 .

Until the end of the 18th century, Weidenbach belonged to the electorate of Trier and was under the administration and jurisdiction of the Manderscheid office .

In 1794 the Left Bank of the Rhine was occupied by French revolutionary troops in the First Coalition War. From 1798 to 1814 Weidenbach belonged to the canton of Manderscheid in the Saardepartement .

At the Congress of Vienna (1815), the region came to the Kingdom of Prussia , Weidenbach in 1816 the newly built district down in Trier assigned and was the seat of the eponymous mayor ..

After the Second World War , the municipality of Weidenbach within the French occupation zone became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate.
