Gelenberg is a municipality in the Vulkaneifel district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the association community Kelberg .

history
In 1563 the village had four fireplaces under the name Geillenberg , and in 1684 six . It belonged to the Electorate of Trier until the end of the 18th century and was part of the Zent Bongard in the Kelberg court of the administration of the Daun office . In 1787 Gelenberg had 93 inhabitants. In connection with the municipal reorganization of Rhineland-Palatinate and the reorganization of the Kelberg Association, the Gelenberg community came from the Mayen district, which was dissolved at the same time, to the Daun district (today the Vulkaneifel district ).

About 90% of the citizens of Gelenberg are Roman Catholic. The village chapel is dedicated to St. Wendelinus. Gelenberg belongs to the cath. Bodenbach parish. Gelenbergers also like to visit the Heyerberg Chapel with its Way of the Cross in the forest.

The municipal council in Gelenberg consists of six council members, who were elected by a majority vote in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman.

The coat of arms description reads: "In green above a golden mountain, in it a blue urn, a golden shepherd's shovel turned to the left."
The coat of arms consists of two parts. The lower part shows a golden mountain and a blue urn inside and symbolizes the burial mound culture found in this area . The upper part contains a golden shepherd's shovel, the symbol of the local saint Wendelinus, on a green background, a symbol of the centuries-old agricultural character of the place.

Natural monuments
In Gelenberg there is an imperial linden tree with a memorial stone with the dates 1813/1913. This stone commemorates the centenary of the victory over Napoleon in the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig and can also be found in many other places in the Central Eifel.
