coat of arms
Blazon : “The head of the shield isdivided in halffrom above left , downwards diagonally to the right. In the right silver part of the shield there is an Antonius cross with pilgrim bells in red, in the left green part of the shield a silver ax and a silver oak leaf. " | |
Surname
The name of the village in the local dialect is Udsat . Utzerath was still called “Otzenrode” in 1518. The final syllable of the place name "rode" indicates that the place Utzerath was created by clearing in its time. If you look at the protected location of the place, largely surrounded by forest, this is still easy to imagine today. The silver ax and the silver oak leaf in the green part of the coat of arms are intended to indicate this origin. The local / patron saint of the Utzerath parish is St. Antonius. His attribute is the Antonius Cross, here hung with two pilgrim bells. Shown in red, it is located in the left silver part of the coat of arms.
