The next larger towns within 20 kilometers of Nohn are Adenau , Blankenheim , Daun , Gerolstein , Hillesheim and Kelberg and Jünkerath .

The Dreymüllerhof and Nohnermühle residential areas belong to Nohn .

The Ahbach flows on the western boundary and the Nohner Bach on the eastern , both in a northerly direction.

history

The name Nohn is said to go back to the Latin ad nonum lapidem - on the ninth milestone. This could relate the location to the Roman road Trier – Cologne , around 20 kilometers to the east , although the exact allocation is not known. The community is first mentioned as the location of a chapel around the year 970, although the relevant deed of donation is considered forged. A secure mention can be found in a document from Archbishop Herbert of Cologne dated May 3, 1019, in which the transfer of a court close to the place Nohne to the Abbey Church of Deutz is documented.

The place belonged to the Adenau district until September 30, 1932 . This was dissolved due to the "Ordinance on the reorganization of districts of August 1, 1932". From October 1, 1932 to November 6, 1970 Nohn belonged to the Ahrweiler district and from November 7, 1970 to December 31, 2006 to the Daun district, which was renamed "Vulkaneifel district" on January 1, 2007.

coat of arms

Coat of arms of Nohn
Blazon : "In the shield, divided by gold over blue, above a growing, black, red-armored double-headed eagle, below a silver, gold-handled sword that is turned diagonally."
Justification of the coat of arms: The double-headed eagle in the coat of arms indicates a relationship between the place and the St. Maximin monastery in Trier . According to a falsified but probably factually correct document from the year 970, the abbey is said to have once owned the “Noyn Chapel”. A relationship to the abbey, which is named as the tithe lord of the place in 1759, can still be proven later. In the lower part of the coat of arms a sword is depicted as an attribute of the Nohner church and local patron St. Martin .

Culture and sights

Nohner

The Nohner is a motorcycle that was built in a small series by the Hoffmann brothers in Nohn in the early 1920s. The copy exhibited today in the premises of the Hoffmann-Reisen company is the only vehicle still in existence. It is powered by an English Villiers engine . In 2005 and 2006, the Nohner took part in the fourth and fifth Ernst Neumann Neander Memorial Voyages in Bad Münstereifel .

Buildings

Parish Church of St. Martin

The parish church of St. Martin was built by brother Nick from Solothurn as a hall in 1781. The tower dates from the 16th century. It is dedicated to St. Martin of Tours . The neo-Romanesque building has a high altar from the first half of the 17th century which, although changed several times, is now practically in its original state. Confessionals and pulpit date from the 18th century. The baroque organ was installed in 1868. It was built in Trier around 1720 and was initially used in the St. Matthias Abbey .

In the adjacent cemetery there is a crucifixion shrine from 1741. The entrance gate of the church, flanked by lions, bears a war memorial to the dead of the First World War .
