geology
Oberstadtfeld is known to geologists because of the diverse fossilizations of an eventful geological past. Remnants of former living beings, which have survived in the rocks despite all changes, prove the rock to be former marine deposits from the Lower Devonian . They date from a time when the Eifel and with it large parts of Central Europe were covered for about 60 million years by the sea about 400-340 million years ago, a sea that geologists call the Devonian Sea. Several lava pits near the village and a silted maar basin on the right of the road to Üdersdorf bear witness to the volcanic activity many millennia ago.
climate
The annual precipitation is 890 mm they are in the upper quarter of the values recorded in Germany. The driest month is April, with the most rainfall in December. In December there is 1.6 times more rainfall than in April. |
history
The first documentary mention of "Stadevelt" dates from October 17, 1016. According to a document from Emperor Heinrich II , the place belongs to the Prüm collegiate monastery . In a certificate of division between the Count of Daun and the Himmerod monastery from 1241, Ober-Stadevelt is mentioned for the first time. From the years 1392, 1447 and 1460 come further documents about lease agreements with the lords of the Pyrmont Castle . Around 1500 a two-aisled church with a central support was built in Oberstadtfeld. A lease agreement with Pyrmont for the mill dates from 1503; The Pyrmont measure was used there until 1780. The first available tax list from Oberstadtfeld in the Manderscheid office dates from 1654. 44 years later, in 1698, as can be seen from a lease, four electoral farms belong to Oberstadtfeld: the Achterhof, the Hahnerhof, the Hundswinklerhof and the Heinenhof. The oldest stated number of inhabitants in Oberstadtfeld, which at that time had a population of 251 people, dates from 1787. In 1794 the Eifel became part of France in the new Saar department and from 1803 Oberstadtfeld was part of the Niederstadtfeld parish in the Trier diocese , previously the place had belonged to the Steinborn parish in the Eifel deanate of the Archdiocese of Cologne . In 1808 the Oberstadtfelder Mühle was auctioned to Matthias Irmen for 1775 French francs.
In 1815 the Eifel was added to Prussia . The old church in Oberstadtfeld was replaced by a new nave between 1837 and 1841 because it was in disrepair. However, the old tower remained. In 1840 the list of residents of Oberstadtfeld listed 356 residents by name. The Heiligenhäuschen in Marktal, on the road to Niederstadtfeld, was built by Friedrich Hein in 1888 as thanks for the healthy return from the Franco-German War of 1870/71 . Large parts of Oberstadtfeld were destroyed at the beginning of the 20th century when 17 houses, stables and barns were destroyed in a fire in 1902. After the fire, Crown Prince Wilhelm also visited Oberstadtfeld on a trip through the Eifel. Towards the end of the Second World War, Oberstadtfeld was shelled three times in air raids in 1944 and 45, killing 28 civilians.

coat of arms
Blazon : “Divided by blue, diagonal step beams. In front a barn with a black roof in silver, behind in gold a red flame. " | |
Justification for the coat of arms: The blue stepped bar is taken from the coat of arms of the Pyrmont rule. In 1392 Archbishop Werner von Trier announced that he had leased Oberstadtfeld and Weidenbach from Lyse von Lussenich, widow of Pyrmont, but that these villages were to revert to Heinrich von Pyrmont after his death. Another Heinrich von Pyrmont confirms in 1447 that he still owns the villages of Stadtfeld, also in 1503. Another important indicator of the rulership structure is that the Pyrmont measure was always used in the Oberstadtfelder mill until 1780.
The barn in the front part of the coat of arms should refer to the four Oberstadtfelder Höfe, Achter-, Heinen-, Hahner- and Hundswinkeler Hof belonging to the elector. Lease records from 1698 and 1792 are in the Landesarchiv about the leasing of these farms. The red flame in the back of the coat of arms symbolizes the local patroness, St. Brigida . The attribute of St. Brigida is the so-called spirit flame. |
